The Launch of THE PROFILER
THE PROFILER officially launches today, bridging the gap between journalism and intelligence to interrogate the opaque systems and financial links that threaten our collective global security.
THE PROFILER, a newly launched investigative intelligence magazine, has been established as an extension of the investigations desk at Gunpowder Chronicles, marking a significant expansion of the publication’s long form reporting mandate into a dedicated, intelligence led format.
The investigations desk at Gunpowder Chronicles has built its reputation on publishing deeply reported work that exposes corruption, hidden power structures and covert influence operations. Drawing on document based research, field reporting and collaborative inquiry, it has scrutinised political actors, organised networks and state backed interference that threaten democratic institutions and the rule of law. The creation of THE PROFILER signals a strategic evolution of that work into a standalone digital magazine designed to operate with greater depth, precision and analytical scope.
At its core, The Profiler is intended to deliver rigorous, intelligence driven reporting that goes beyond conventional journalism. It combines open source intelligence and human intelligence with traditional investigative methods, aiming to map the networks and relationships that underpin political and economic power across regions.
“This is about taking the work we have already been doing and pushing it further into the realm of structured intelligence analysis,” said Michael Sheppard, political editor at Gunpowder Chronicles. “We are not just reporting events, we are interrogating systems, tracing influence and exposing how power operates behind closed doors.”
The publication will serve as the next flagship investigative platform for the organisation, focusing on comprehensive profiles of individuals, entities and networks of public interest. Its reporting will be supported by partnerships with journalists, researchers and sources on the ground across Europe and in other regions, enabling access to local insight and primary information streams that are often inaccessible to traditional newsrooms.
The Profiler also brings together a small but growing cohort of emerging contributors, including six students based in New York, Berlin, Washington and London, who are now part of the project. Working alongside senior editors and investigators, they contribute to research, data analysis and open source intelligence gathering, forming an early stage pipeline of talent engaged in investigative reporting and intelligence work.
Vudi Xhymshiti, founder and chief editor, described The Profiler as a natural progression of the organisation’s mission to illuminate the unseen dynamics shaping global affairs.
“For years we have investigated the visible consequences of conflict, corruption and interference,” Xhymshiti he said. “The Profiler allows us to examine the architecture behind those realities, the financial links, the strategic alliances, the covert operations. It is about understanding not just what happens, but why it happens and who benefits.”
He added that the magazine would operate within a framework of strict editorial integrity, legal compliance and source protection, reflecting the standards that have defined the investigations desk to date.
“We are building a platform that treats information with the seriousness it demands,” Xhymshiti said. “Our responsibility is not only to reveal but to verify, to contextualise and to present findings in a way that informs public understanding without distortion.”
The Profiler will publish a series of in depth investigative reports, each focused on uncovering complex networks of influence that shape political decision making, security dynamics and economic power. By integrating intelligence methodologies with journalistic scrutiny, the publication aims to provide readers with a clearer view of the forces operating beyond public visibility.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, the launch reflects a broader shift towards specialised, high calibre investigative work that prioritises depth over speed. For Gunpowder Chronicles, it represents both a continuation and an expansion of its founding mission, to hold power to account and to bring into the open the structures that sustain it.
While our primary focus remains the cultivation of in-depth, raw intelligence through rigorous on-the-ground data gathering, specifically targeting those entities that leverage vast wealth and opaque networks to undermine democracy, security, and the rule of law, we recognise that such truths demand a global platform. Consequently, a significant portion of these findings will be shared with our trusted media allies across the United Kingdom, the United States, and broader Europe, institutions whose editorial strategies are anchored in the unwavering protection of international order and human liberties.
THE PROFILER, part of The Frontline Media Group, remains open to commissioned projects from organisations that share this ethical alignment. Given the profound sensitivity of our work and the inherent risks involved in challenging entrenched power, all reporting will be authored under the magazine’s masthead. We will not disclose the identities of our staff, a necessary measure to ensure their safety as they continue this vital service to the public interest. In doing so, we remain humble servants of the facts, guided by a conviction that the integrity of the record is more important than the profile of the individual.
