British filmmaker and journalist Vaughan Smith is set to be honoured with the title of "Honorary Citizen" by the municipality of Skenderaj, Kosovo. According to Kosovar outlet kallxo.com1 this recognition, proposed by Mayor Fadil Nura on 17 March 2025, acknowledges Smith’s contribution to documenting Kosovo’s fight for freedom and raising international awareness of the conflict. The decision is expected to be formally approved at a municipal assembly session on 18 June 2025, marking the anniversary of Skenderaj’s liberation.
Smith, an esteemed war correspondent and video journalist2, played a crucial role in reporting on the Kosovo War, capturing some of its most defining moments.
