This leadership has looted the country’s budget and allowed a culture of violence against those who dared to speak out. Journalists and political activists have been silenced, some killed under mysterious circumstances—falling from balconies, others gunned down in broad daylight. Media outlets that aligned themselves with these corrupt networks, or served the interests of foreign diplomats, managed to survive. Meanwhile, voices critical of this dark alliance were systematically suppressed, perpetuating a cycle of misinformation and hopelessness among the Kosovar populace.
